new extra guitar player on the GFD tour 2nd leg
11. Jan 2012 at 19:35

from SW 's FACEBOOK:

Folks, I'd like to introduce you to Niko Tsonev, who will be the new guitar player for the forthcoming SW tour (the rest of the band remains the same). Niko is a fantastically creative musician, and he fits in perfectly with the band. Check out the video clip of him playing one of his own compositions. Apologies for the delay in getting the rest of the European shows, and the North and South American tour dates confirmed, but these will be announced any day now..

never heard of this guitarist but hearing him on you tube I think he fits in perfectly..I think that SW will play no longer guitar on the 2nd leg...or....

like Niko Tsonev's music score for the thriller serie The Bridge...

It's a bit unclear to me. So does it mean that Aziz is out or is Niko yet another addition to the line-up? Anyways, I'm not very impressed by that clip. Sure, he has the chops but it sounded more like an exercise in both technique and effect usage than a composition. But I guess he might be a good sideman.

Hm, I guess there are not many guitar players who are even more annoying than Aziz. But unfortunately Mr Wilson found one. embarrassed
Mr Laserpointer and Mr Fancy Hat together on one stage? Unbearable!

At least one good news: there are more European shows to come. Smiley

I honestly liked Wes' playing at the show in Boston. Despite being about 50 dB too loud for the venue, Wes absolutely nailed the parts IMHO. Plus, the fact that he was a "fill in" and was still reading sheet music for parts of the show made the fact he nailed it even more impressive. I know Wes has his upcoming album "Disconnect" to consider, but if that didn't factor into things, and if I were Steven, I'd have brought Wes back out as part of the touring band, 100% without a doubt. And in that case, once Wes was comfortable enough with the guitar parts, you could potentially do 3-way vocal harmonies in a live setting between Beggs, Wilson, and Wes. But oh well...if SW comes back to the northeast at any time in the near or distant future either solo or with PT I'd still be there, as it goes without saying that not many, if any at all, live acts nowadays can even come close to the polished, professional, phenomenal performances which Wilson and co always put on.

I assumed Tsonev replaced Aziz?  They will both be on stage?  What's the point unless SW plans on 'conducting' throughout the entire concert!

I first read it as him replacing Aziz. But then, I re-read it...still confused.
Aziz hasn't mentioned it yet. on his fb.

I would assume "the new guitar player" instead of "a new guitar player" means Aziz is being replaced.

It's probably visa or scheduling difficulties, I'd guess scheduling is probably why Wes isn't the touring guitar player.

I wish he would take Mike Outram on the tour. I love his solos and I think he would fit better.

this new guy looks like he could play fly sh*t!
SW states he has written a very long new piece for the 2nd leg.
I think his style suits SW songwriting style at the moment and the new material
demands this type of technique and ability.

Can,t wait for London. Smiley

Aziz had his visa problems all sorted out...

I get the feeling Steven didn't like Aziz style or something...maybe they had a falling out? And so he got a new guitar player.

Aziz finally got his Visa, he probably told Steven and Steven was like..."uhhhhhhh yeah about that..."

Who knows the real story, but Aziz seemed excited to finally get his visa and now he ain't going.

Yeah I spoke to Aziz after the last gig and he was eager to go on - saying how playing with tese amazing musicians made him up the ante as well etc. Well maybe it was just a scheduling issue

I'll reserve judgement on the new guy until after he actually performs with SW. Any aspiring guitarist is going to post his shredding-est tunes on You Tube - after all, wouldn't you list your own "best" achievements on your CV? Which in the guitar world (sadly) seems to be the ability to play the most hemi-demi-semi-whatevers per second. I'm hoping he has some more sensitive playing up his sleeve, and that SW doesn't give him too much free rein for pointless noodling.

That said, I'd rather he had picked up Marco Sfogli. The video of Marco auditioning for James La Brie's solo band is a hoot - and yes, he got the job. Yet another guitarist with visa problems though!

Damn. I thought Aziz was back which would have been good for the DVD. I loved Wes and figured he just had other stuff going and Steve would use Aziz again.

So now yet another guy has to learn this on the fly? That does not bode well for the live recordings.

Bring back Wes!!!

The announcement was made a week ago already and, more importantly, there's still a couple of months to go. So plenty of time to learn the material. Besides, the whole band will have to rehearse together anyway before this tour as they have to learn this new long piece and the break from the first tour is quite a long.
