Not only Chris Maitland, but they have Danny Thompson, Arran Ahmun (John Martyn) and  the string arrangements from Dave Gregory!!!!! This is a sweet surprise.

Sure, it's a great team altogether. But what I meant was that it's very special since it's the first time in over a decade that Richard and Chris worked on some music together. I just think it's great that Richard decided to invite Chris to participate in this project.

Exactly - it's great to see Chris involved with this.    Maitland = he de man!  Cheesy

Red Kite
A Cat With Seven Souls
Your Beautiful Face
Only Love Will Make You Free
Not the Weapon But The Hand

All those tracks were played on Trójka (polish radio), they sounded pretty good. What is more, album will be released in Poland sooner than anywhere else (www.rockserwis.pl).

Okay, I'll try it.
It is a project where two of my favourite musicians are involved (RB and CM) so it deserves a fair chance.
I wipe away my prejudices. Maybe this singer isn't as bad as I remember.

Holy sh*t! That was tough. The first 15 seconds .... phew .... awesome vibrato, Steve. Brilliant intonation.

Any chance for a karaoke version?

Listening to it right now. Amazing album. For fans of Marillion and Richard. Received a signed copy, making it double special.  Wink

Got a signed copy yesterday from Racket Records (I live in Dallas, TX). It was weird because I got the shipping confirmation from Racket two days ago, so it definitely shipped a lot sooner than two days ago.

Anyways, I have given it 3 spins and so far I love it! My favorite track is the title track so far along with Red Kite.

I got the shipping confirmation two days after the CD!

Anyway, I quite like the album. H tries to sing/be a bit different than in Marillion, and Richard sprinkles his usual magic.
I love the vocals in the beginning of "under the lid", it sounds really like something that's locked up and gets out for the first time in a long time. It matches the lyrics very well. I wish they had done more in this experimental vein.

Also cool is the rough approach for the many backing vocals in "Only Love can set you free". Quite different than the polished vocals in Marillion, but with a voice like that, not everything has to be polished.

The rough approach to the backing vocals sounds interesting and different to Marillion's BVs.
"a voice like that" = a voice I like.

There seems to be a Massive Attack vibe to much of this album. It's odd that Mr Hogarth seems to be speaking rather than singing quite a lot of the vocals but I don't mind this... it adds to the atmosphere perfectly. Stand out tracks for me are "Red Kite", "A Cat With Seven Souls"and above all "Your Beautiful Face".
The lyrics to "Only Love Will Set You Free" seem full of stale spiritual cliches but the track sounds so good that I don't care. I also love the ballsy attitude of "Crack".

I've only heard one track - the one featured on the Kscope Podcast. Think it was called Naked. It sounded interesting and different, but I can't say I particulally loved it.

I felt much the same about the few pieces of Richard's solo stuff that I have heard. Technically good, but no "Wow" factor.

Don't let "Naked" put you off hearing the rest of the album bob. In my opinion it is by far the weakest track on there.
