Hatesong live, which is superior?
24. Nov 2011 at 10:30

Assuming you've heard both, which live version of this song do you prefer? I'm sure the large majority have heard only the Arriving Somewhere... version and I would ask that you do not vote in this poll until you've heard both. Same goes for those who've only heard the Futile version. Thanks!

Edit: I've added two more choices suggested by our friend, 4ctmam. I don't expect you to have heard, or to be entirely famliar with all of these live versions of Hatesong (i'm no exception.), but it would defeat the purpose of this poll if all participants weren't atleast familiar with a couple of the versions listed above, wouldn't it? Thanks again and happy voting!

I've updated the poll once again, and additionally the OP this time around.

Arriving Somewhere. It has a drum solo at the end.

Agreed. The "XM II" version is a close second for me. Then the "Futile" version. The "Warszawa" version doesn't even rank for me. I have the album and appreciate Chris' approach to some of those songs but I can't bring myself to listen to a version of "Hatesong" without Gavin's drum outro anymore. Chris' approach is literally just boring to me now that I've heard how this song is capable of sounding with a technically superior player. However, I do strongly respect Chris. Give me a copy of "Coma Divine" and my headphones and I'm in heaven.

I guess it's all a matter of taste. While Hatesong with Gavin can be quite entertaining during actual concerts, imo he turned the song into almost a circus act. Don't get me wrong, what he does on each of his versions is really impressive and proves how great his technique is. But most of the time it destroyes the song's mood (especially in the first part when the song's got this hypnotic quality to it). Just an opinion.

Arriving Somewhere... for me.  I can give credit to the fact that Chris makes the song less solo oriented but I feel like not only did Gavin kick it up a notch at this performance but the band followed him too.  One of my favourite live PT recordings.
