The next PT tour?
21. Jun 2011 at 18:27

This is very very very pre-mature and I wouldn't take this as a guarantee. So let's not blow things out of proportion.

However, Gavin posted on the Modern Drummer forum the following:

Quote:
"I don't think I'll be performing in the UK again until next year with PT."

I would assume Fall 2012 if they do tour next year; with an album out around the same time. I honestly wasn't expecting a PT tour until 2013; so we'll see!

Actually I think your right since you did not give an actual time of the season for the tour.

they finished 2010 with those 2 major shows in NYC and London. He did the Blackfield III album and tour  he is going to release his 2nd album in 2011  and since I have heard that there will be no tour to support his new solo album  then that leaves the rest of the time to get some New ideas for PT songs and start writing and recording.

I will say that knowing the time schedule for releasing new albums and touring it will be either fall or spring 2012. I can see that   Thats not jumping the gun that is a realisitic time frame now that does not mean that the band will follow that but also knowing that  Record labels they don't like a band to wait to long in releasing new stuff if there good  and there is a buzz about them Cool

Late 2012 for the next album is always kinda what I was expecting, and then I figured the tour would be either Fall 2012 or Spring 2013.

I imagine they'll start writing late this year or maybe early next year.

Hmmm this sounds good, but I hope that they don't feel under pressure from the label or whoever just to churn out new material just for the sake of keeping up the momentum as that could be prejudicial to quality  undecided

What's the longest PT have ever gone without touring, a year and a half? So I think Fall 2012 (which would put it right up against two years) is realistic. SW released Insurgentes in Feb. 2009 and they were on the road with a new album by Sept. 2009. So Fall 2012 would be a solid year's time to put out an album and prepare to hit the road again.

Yup, and both Gavin and John Wesley have confirmed that they will be on tour with PT next year.

Before Grace for Drowning I would have agreed 100%; now I still agree, just not as much. I mean I love PT, very much, but Steven on his own is just fine. My only wish is for more writting by Colin, Richard, and Gavin...maybe even Wes.  Smiley

To make matters worse, this is in complete correlation with what enjay said about him meeting with SW at the music store performance in this thread: http://www.porcupinetreeforum.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1316664705/75#75

From the same website, posted today:

Quote:
UPDATE, 11/12, 9:00 a.m.: Leff contacted Gun Shy Assassin last night and said he was referring to the band’s new album when he was talking in the VIP section, not the band itself, and that “PT is NOT breaking up, and the band’s future is NOT in doubt.”

I don't understand how a potential new album could be in serious doubt, but the band's future not be in doubt. They've never toured without new material and I don't think SW would allow it now. Nor do I think the fans want them to tour without new material.

I agree, it does sound even more confusing now. Although, I think this is just misconception going further, there surely will be a new album.

SW just did an interview like, not even a week ago, where he said he was really enjoying himself on this solo tour, and that he was planning on doing a 2nd leg of it. He said in early 2012 PT would get back together to start discussing the next record. Pretty sure the original plan all along was to spend 2011 on his solo album and Blackfield, and then early next year begin work on the new PT album. It might get a slightly later start, but it seems like we're on target for what he's been saying for the past 2 years.

Yup and now that Nick Beggs has officially confirmed they'll be on tour again in April via facebook; that gives PT the first 3 months of the year to get together. So far on track.

John Wesley answered a question on his Fanbridge account a few days ago and he said he hoped to return on tour with PT in 2013.

It seems that the band members are now getting the info from SW that writing/touring the next PT album is pushed back a bit.

Well Wes appeared to be saying he "hoped" to be on tour in 2013. Not I will be on tour. So, a possibilty, not definitely. The last activity from PT was the Albert Hall gig in October 2010. The Incident was released nearly 2 and a half years ago. Nothing confirmed this year  and the additional guitarist for live gigs isn't even sure they will be on tour next year?
I'm telling you man, PT IS finished- it has given SW the platform he needed to create the music he wants to, without compromise and entirely on his own terms.
My opinion has nothing to do with not wanting another album. I do, but it's not happening. I can live with that.

Ok, NOW this is borderline trolling. So I'm denying what exactly? I understand both sides of the argument. But there is much more evidence supporting PT will continue on at this point. Just because there is no plan to go into the studio this year doesn't mean anything.

Well I for one have conditioned myself for a PT breakup. I'm probably the only Van Halen fan here and after the torture I've endured with that band over the last 10 years (truly, no band treats their fans worse), I've gotten hardened to these things. Plus if PT does get back together it'll be that much more thrilling.

"I hope to be on tour" is a clear signal to me that the future of PT is up in the air. SW said it himself, "I don't know when or if I'm going to do that again." At least he's being candid and I have to respect him for that.

The trolling comment had nothing to do with you "biting back."

But anyways I think this is getting pretty ridiculous. I'm not one to argue online with random people so I think I'll bow out of this one because it is going nowhere. I am sorry if you feel I disrespected you, it was not my intent. I offer my acknowledgement of your line of thinking, even if I don't agree with it. I hope we can just let this one go Smiley

I was serious about that.  Anyone remember Gilmour replacing Barrett (sort of) or Buckingham replacing Green, or Morse replacing Blackmore, or, or, or.  In most of those cases the band actually got better.

I was serious about that.  Anyone remember Gilmour replacing Barrett (sort of) or Buckingham replacing Green, or Morse replacing Blackmore, or, or, or.  In most of those cases the band actually got better.

I don't think they would use the name Porcupine Tree. Even though Barrett started Pink Floyd, it never went on long enough for it to be "his" band. Porcupine Tree is not Porcupine Tree without Steven Wilson.

But then again, Alice in Chains kept their name so you never know...

If they don't get together again, I wonder if Barbieri, Harrison and Edwin can carry on with a new guitar player?

Yeah I shudder to think what that would sound like, especially if they actually tried to play the old PT songs.

The difference is that Jerry Cantrell is a huge part of AIC, certainly as big as Layne Staley was. In a situation where you have two equal contributors, you can get away with it. Especially if the guy that departed was more lyric-oriented than music-oriented.

In PT, 90% of the lyrics AND music is done by one guy. Actually has ANYONE other than Alan Duffy written PT lyrics besides SW? Anyway, the other band members deserve some credit for steering SW in the direction the band has taken over the years and providing the muscle and grit behind the operation, but the two most important organs, the brain and the heart, are 100% SW.

Edwin, Harrison and Barbieri with some schmo on guitar, calling themselves "Porcupine Tree," would be ALMOST as farcical as "Nine Inch Nails" without Trent Reznor.

Ummmm, Morse belongs with Dixie Dregs, who by the way I love and have seen on several occasions.

DP isn't/wasn't DP without Blackmore.

Just me opining.

I can understand SW wanting to break from peoples PT expectations but still perform dynamic music. KCs music (not only Lizard) has a profound influence on GfD.

Not nearly. Fish was the singer and lyricist in the band. He didn't write any music, he never did, actually.

He was the charisma, the stage presence and the spice of the band.

In my humble opinion the function of a forum is to let people express their different opinions. Obviously my opinion on that issue is completely contrary to yours.

I would really appreciate if you would explain to me why you complain about me expressing my opinion which is just my opinion and in no way expressed as facts while everybody else's opinion is just fine.

The only reason I would understand is that my opinion is completely offtopic. But if you complain about that you'll have to complain about three quarters of the posts in this forum.
