SW just did an interview like, not even a week ago, where he said he was really enjoying himself on this solo tour, and that he was planning on doing a 2nd leg of it. He said in early 2012 PT would get back together to start discussing the next record. Pretty sure the original plan all along was to spend 2011 on his solo album and Blackfield, and then early next year begin work on the new PT album. It might get a slightly later start, but it seems like we're on target for what he's been saying for the past 2 years.

Yup and now that Nick Beggs has officially confirmed they'll be on tour again in April via facebook; that gives PT the first 3 months of the year to get together. So far on track.

Has PT became a side project now? Huh

If you think about it, PT started off as a side project to No-Man anyway.  Wink

John Wesley answered a question on his Fanbridge account a few days ago and he said he hoped to return on tour with PT in 2013.

It seems that the band members are now getting the info from SW that writing/touring the next PT album is pushed back a bit.

Well Wes appeared to be saying he "hoped" to be on tour in 2013. Not I will be on tour. So, a possibilty, not definitely. The last activity from PT was the Albert Hall gig in October 2010. The Incident was released nearly 2 and a half years ago. Nothing confirmed this year  and the additional guitarist for live gigs isn't even sure they will be on tour next year?
I'm telling you man, PT IS finished- it has given SW the platform he needed to create the music he wants to, without compromise and entirely on his own terms.
My opinion has nothing to do with not wanting another album. I do, but it's not happening. I can live with that.

Ok, NOW this is borderline trolling. So I'm denying what exactly? I understand both sides of the argument. But there is much more evidence supporting PT will continue on at this point. Just because there is no plan to go into the studio this year doesn't mean anything.

Now hang on  just a minute. You are deliberately following my posts on the subject of PT's future and making snarky comments and the one time I bite back you accuse me of trolling??
You have your opinion, I have mine. But don't continue to make comments like you have been and not expect me to respond with an edge

Well I for one have conditioned myself for a PT breakup. I'm probably the only Van Halen fan here and after the torture I've endured with that band over the last 10 years (truly, no band treats their fans worse), I've gotten hardened to these things. Plus if PT does get back together it'll be that much more thrilling.

"I hope to be on tour" is a clear signal to me that the future of PT is up in the air. SW said it himself, "I don't know when or if I'm going to do that again." At least he's being candid and I have to respect him for that.

The trolling comment had nothing to do with you "biting back."

But anyways I think this is getting pretty ridiculous. I'm not one to argue online with random people so I think I'll bow out of this one because it is going nowhere. I am sorry if you feel I disrespected you, it was not my intent. I offer my acknowledgement of your line of thinking, even if I don't agree with it. I hope we can just let this one go Smiley

If they don't get together again, I wonder if Barbieri, Harrison and Edwin can carry on with a new guitar player?

I was serious about that.  Anyone remember Gilmour replacing Barrett (sort of) or Buckingham replacing Green, or Morse replacing Blackmore, or, or, or.  In most of those cases the band actually got better.

I don't think they would use the name Porcupine Tree. Even though Barrett started Pink Floyd, it never went on long enough for it to be "his" band. Porcupine Tree is not Porcupine Tree without Steven Wilson.

But then again, Alice in Chains kept their name so you never know...

Yeah I shudder to think what that would sound like, especially if they actually tried to play the old PT songs.

The difference is that Jerry Cantrell is a huge part of AIC, certainly as big as Layne Staley was. In a situation where you have two equal contributors, you can get away with it. Especially if the guy that departed was more lyric-oriented than music-oriented.

In PT, 90% of the lyrics AND music is done by one guy. Actually has ANYONE other than Alan Duffy written PT lyrics besides SW? Anyway, the other band members deserve some credit for steering SW in the direction the band has taken over the years and providing the muscle and grit behind the operation, but the two most important organs, the brain and the heart, are 100% SW.

Edwin, Harrison and Barbieri with some schmo on guitar, calling themselves "Porcupine Tree," would be ALMOST as farcical as "Nine Inch Nails" without Trent Reznor.

Ummmm, Morse belongs with Dixie Dregs, who by the way I love and have seen on several occasions.

DP isn't/wasn't DP without Blackmore.

Just me opining.

I can understand SW wanting to break from peoples PT expectations but still perform dynamic music. KCs music (not only Lizard) has a profound influence on GfD.

Not nearly. Fish was the singer and lyricist in the band. He didn't write any music, he never did, actually.

In my humble opinion the function of a forum is to let people express their different opinions. Obviously my opinion on that issue is completely contrary to yours.

I would really appreciate if you would explain to me why you complain about me expressing my opinion which is just my opinion and in no way expressed as facts while everybody else's opinion is just fine.

The only reason I would understand is that my opinion is completely offtopic. But if you complain about that you'll have to complain about three quarters of the posts in this forum.
