Pineapple Thief CD not shipped yet (still on preorder)

The PT vinyls listed on the flyer are "forthcoming"....they have not been manufactured yet. As soon as we have news we'll let you know!

Pete

Can we have more information on re-issue of The Sky Move Sideways LP ?? Which one of the versions is being re-issued?
Is it the 3 LP that came with the extra 7" Men of Wood?. Is it Black ?
What about Blue like the original Delirium ed? That could  be way too cool. Thanks.  Smiley

Jeez, didnt we have the same discussion during the Signify reissue.
Black only please. Easier to clean, spot scratches, lasts longer and sounds better.
Please please please only black.

Why not do both? That's what was done Lightbulb Sun and In Absentia (among others). Numbered colored/marbled vinyl and then a standard black version. That way people can choose for themselves (and an album re-release as big as TSMS should have no trouble selling).

I don't think they will do both colored and black. Lightbuld made from Tonefload and was the 1st vinyl edition. I believe kscope will stick to one version only and that will be black (I was hoping for colours) cause there were noise problems in the past with some colored editions, and if you consider how weird and sound freaks we the PT fans are we give them no choise but to do it in virgin black for better sound results. Anyway, as long they are new, 180 grams gatefold vinyls with innesrleeves I don't care. I hope they will stick with the 3 Lp versions.

Yes!  Fine with that as I do like the translucency of the blue foabp.

Have not noticed a sound difference between translucent colored and black PT vinyl so translucent colored is fine by me.

Bring on more of those tinted translucent vinyls.    Grin

I thought that weight was more important than color if the album is made with high standards or quality.  I'm mistaken??

Coloured vinyl wears very quickly and is usually made of cheaper material (scraps/shavings). Black virgin vinyl is the best for sound quality and nothing beats it.

Good to know.
Now I feel pretty bad about all those colored Tonefloat limited editions that I have. Should have bought regular black editions and saved some money.  undecided

IMO weight has little bearing on sound quality, its a selling gimmick. Audiophile heavy weight pressing blah blah blah.
Take albums like Pink Floyds The Final Cut or Roger Waters Pro's and Con's which are pressed on vinyl thats no thicker than a fag paper but are 2 of the most amazing sounding albums on vinyl.
I've yet to hear a coloured vinyl better the same album on black.

Thats not to say Kscope or Bsheds heavy weight pressings aren't great, cos they are.   Smiley

I think that thickness has more to do with warping than sound.
I remember in the old days, many years ago, having a few albums that became "wavy" after they were left too long in the car in the summer or too close to the heater. The people these days prefers 150-180 and up as opposed to the 90 gr of the olden days.

I do think there's difference between solid colored vinyl and translucent vinyl.

Virgin vinyl is translucent.

If we want to be picky here, the actual composition of a vinyl record is a that it is a mixture of poly vinyl chloride (PVC) and poly vinyl acetate (PVA) with the largest component being PVC. Both these polymers in their virgin state are transparent or perhaps slightly translucent in some cases. Cutting the actual grooves certainly reduces transparency. So a 'pure' vinyl record is not black at all. However, to modify properties of the vinyl other materials are added in small amounts including carbon black (giving the characteristic black colour) and some other stabilisers etc. Carbon black itself does little to actually affect the physical qualities of the polymer other than as a colouring agent but I know that ears of audophiles are far superior to mine and there may be nuances related to the total composition of the system that make a black record apparently sound better or perhaps that should be 'sound like it should'. Certainly the greater the variability of the base material through adding recycled material or other pigments with possibly larger particle sizes could affect sound reproduction.

Burningshed now has a 24bit high resolution audio store for downloads in 48 kHz and 96 kHz. For playback, keep in mind you will need a media player and audio device that supports that bit-depth and sampling rates. Two really good ones are Foobar2000 and JRiver Media Center, though I recommend Foobar because, well, it is free and I really have yet to find anything that beats it. It can be configured with add-ons to play almost any kind of audio format. I even play my DVD-Audio discs with it.

Most recent computers have sound cards that support these resolutions and decode to analog for the headphone or line-out jack on your computer. Though, based on my experiences, you may not truly hear the benefit of high resolution audio without a good digital connection (AES, S/PDIF RCA or Toslink) from your computer to a quality stereo receiver or digital audio converter. And furthermore, quality loud speakers or studio monitors don't hurt. This is getting into computer audiophile territory, one of which I am quite familiar and have experienced and shared on this forum. Keep in mind, if you are already an owner of the DVD-Audio releases and have a DVD-Audio player, you already own these high resolution stereo releases in physical form. Granted, some are getting very difficult to find. I am hoping Burningshed will be able to offer everything that Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson has released in high resolution at some point. For example, the store is still lacking the 24bit versions of Stupid Dream, In Absentia and Deadwing.

Great news! Thanks for making purchases a lot more convenient, Pete! I hope this helps with business.

Also, if I might ask, is there any news on when there will be new editions to the Burning Shed 24 download store? Would like to see Deadwing added since there is a high resolution 24 bit stereo version on the DVD-Audio release, but unfortunately finding the physical disc is becoming nearly impossible. I am also hoping to see In Absentia released for download in 24 bit stereo, but the DVD-Audio only has the surround tracks in 24 bit, not the stereo version. But, then again, Steven might have the 24 bit studio master to make it available for the store. And, of course, would like to see much more 24 bit studio masters become available related to all things Porcupine Tree, King Crimson, Anathema, Opeth, and so on, etc.

As always, thanks for making Burning Shed full of awesomeness! Smiley
