Do you use voice commands in your gadgets?

Talking to a machine as if it were a human being?! A fascinating technology is opening up, isn't it? Or, maybe, it's rather entertainment than practical help?

I don't use it on my phone or computer. I think it's too much hassle on a phone that I'm holding in my hand already, I figure I may as well press the buttons rather than voice dialing "Bill" instead of "Jill" etc.

I am somewhat interested in computer commands, I would like to use (but have not found, maybe from not looking hard enough) a program that I could control my music player on my laptop with my voice. I think that would be rather useful!

I hate voice commands and I hate worse automated telephone systems that force me to give voice commands to a machine.  If you want me to talk to someone then give me someone to talk to.

Can't be pestered with voice commands, but this looks like an interesting development!

I messed around with some voice recognition stuff on my PC some years back...was extremely unimpressed. I do recall using one of my older phones to dial by voice (useful for driving), and I had mixed results.

I'm holding out for Star Trek-style voice recognition.

I used to use voice command on an old cell phone. It worked excellent, one button and say a command. That phone eventually died and I got a new one, much nicer in all respects except for the voice command, it has a hard time understanding me. So, now I do not use voice command.

I don't have any gadgets with that option, so there. I have a Nokia from god knows what year, it doesn't even have a camera, but guess what: it works perfectly with phone calls and sms's.  Grin

I agree totally. However I wouldn't mind if you had the choice to use voice or not use voice, I imagine people with certain disabilities might find voice easier.

I've never really used it much. I've only ever had it as an option on my computer, it worked fine but it just never was worth the effort of training the software for dictation and performing commands just seems a bit pointless.

I've also hated phone systems that make you talk to them although I do always have a terrible time with the touch-tone phone systems too, I never remember which option is which . . . . .

Now it looks like I'll be spending several months at work learning all about voice command systems though, I need to develop a system for using voice commands for warehouse management. From a software perspective it is quite an interesting area to be in but also quite challenging.

Just got a new cell phone, hears me well, commands are simplified. I will definitley use it, very convenient in the car (tickets are very expensive!).

My phone hasn't even got a camera. I don't need one nor do I need to talk to my phone to make it do commands. I can see the fun in the concept, but it sure ain't practical. Unless you're unable to use your hands and fingers of course, but then it's not only practical, then it's a necessity.
