well i see your people's point but ignoring certain members posts may not work out as easily due to some practicalities brought up - if someone annoys the heck out of everyone else it might be because he/she is mucking up whole threads thereby short circuiting the whole disccussion - so if there are people deemed guilty of that an official warning and afterwards an outright ban would be the only solution

personally i don't mind silly posts (up to a degree) in some of the general chat sections but would like to see firm moderation in all other threads /...

cheers

Me too. I know Simon previously said we could PM him, but what annoys me will not bother others. One poster in particular bugs me to the extent that I'm rapidly losing interest in this forum, which is a shame 'cos there are so many great posters here.

One who comes on here and wants to 'ignore' people should ignore themselves!!..

Disagreeing with people is fine.  Actually, it's great - I think it's vital to challenge one's assumptions on a daily basis.

However, I have limited tolerance for people who actively seek to annoy, and those who refuse to argue the issues, instead attacking the people trying to conduct a civilised conversation.

Hence, an 'ignore member' feature might slightly simplify what I'm doing already.
I do slightly fear that it'd be too easy to use, though, and hence too often used - I'd only use it in extreme cases, like 1-in-6877.

If you suspect that folks may be referring to you, why not moderate some of your more 'outspoken' posts so that there's less chance of people ignoring you? You do sometimes have a tendency to fly off the handle and start attacking people in an arrogant manner - your "Sorry..  but that's sooo rubish!" post above being a reasonable example -  and if you reigned in that behaviour yourself, there may be fewer folks wondering when they would get an ignore feature (which I agree is a poor solution). If you approve of the above linked article, think of this as the honest criticism rather than simply a shrill insult.  Wink

Dutch people are the most outspoken people in the world.. and even for a Dutch' I AM VERY outspoken!
Very open and very direct. Most people are not used to that..

Well.. sorry.. take it or leave it. I never looked anyone up to insult them.
I don't wanne sound like a sad Voyage here, ( cry) but i had happened things in my life that most people would have driven to suicide.. 10 years ago and then some.. but i'm still trying to be nice, altough yet cynical..

(Don't try to judge someone you don't know).

If one can't take that, too bad. Ignore me..
Not my loss..

Do you really think we care (or should care) about what has happened to you? I'm sure many people in this forum have gone through worse stories in their lives and they are no being a pest.

Agreed.  I didn't enjoy my twenties (let's leave it at that), but I feel no right to take anything out on strangers.  It's no excuse.

my life sucks, but I have no urge to seek to annoy people here to get some outlet for my annoyance for myself and the world/other people, it doesnt do anything for you, its a false "release" of your tension.
I used to do it a bit in the past, Id be really annoying at an icelandic forum I use, got a 1 month ban twice. So to people who annoy others, dont try to spread the negativity of your own life towards others, deal w. it yourself.
If you feel driven to be annoying, heres another advice in the form of a picture (and remember that pic when you get the urge)
