FAQ

OK, with the amount of new folks showing up here at the moment (which is great - welcome all of you!) I thought I'd post a link to the official PT FAQ cos there are a lot of questions being asked repeatedly that are answered in this. Here ya go:

Because SW feels his vocals on that song aren't powerful enough to work live - they did try it, but it didn't work. So the only way to make it work was to change the song drastically, which makes giving Wes a moment in the spotlight make sense.

Exactly - Wes sings it in a higher register which works, whereas the original studio version has SW almost whispering the vocal. They did play it live at their very first gig (High Wycombe, Nags Head 1993) with SW singing and it "didn't work" so it was dropped for years until Wes joined the touring band.

To be precise, Wes sings a full octave higher and makes tiny changes in the melody.

I think they played this song when I saw them live in Atlanta last year...I hadn't listened to UTD before the concert, because I have a tendency to wait a long time before exploring the older albums. But I remember them saying, "This is a song off UTD." And Wes sang it, and it was absolutely gorgeous.

Sorry but that information isn't available. The only (rough) figures have been for the last couple of PT albums which have all done 100 - 150k worldwide so far.

I've searched here and on the official website but can't find anything regarding my question so I thought I'd ask here. During the song, Voyage 34, there is a narrator at the beginning and during the song that sounds very much like Dick Clark from American Bandstand and I was wondering if that is who it is? The liner notes from the Stars Die compilation doesn't make any reference to the speaker. Thanks.

Recordings and Interviews on the LSD record is by Lawrence Schiller, but the narration is actually by Dick Clark, isn´t it?

That's what that site claims, but as far as I know, they're just assuming that from the voice too.

Is 'Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape' on Staircase Infinities (or UTD Disc 2) a live recording or was it produced in the studio? If it's a studio take (with added crowd-noise), why didn't they use the original song which was also released on the compilation 'Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape'?

The version of YHD on YHD is a bit different, it has someone talking for the first minute or two. The version on Staircase Infinities does not have the talking in the beginning. The version on YHD also does not have crowd noise....but the person talking is speaking as if they are talking to a crowd. Not sure it that helps or not.
